Should I Hire A Professional Organizer?

You have bins. You have labels. You scrolled Pinterest until your eyes went numb—and yet, your home still feels overwhelming. If you are always tidying but never feel like progress is made, you might find yourself wondering: Should I hire a professional organizer?

…but then you think, “Do I really need help with this?”

Before you get too far down one path or the other, let’s talk about what a professional organizer does, who benefits most, and how to know if it’s the right step for you.

What Does a Professional Organizer Actually Do?

You may have read Marie Kondo’s book, the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up or watched the Home Edit’s show on Netflix—but media doesn’t always give you the full picture. There are many organizing businesses out there and they offer unique services in unique ways. For example, some are focused more on the “pretty” spaces, others on the function. Some have teams, others are operating solo.

Despite all the differences, a professional organizers should offer you a luxury service that includes coaching through the decluttering process, developing organizing systems, and maintenance. A professional organizer will give you an individualized experience. They don’t simply copy and paste one client’s solution to your house.

Signs You Might Need a Professional Organizer

  1. If you feel overwhelmed when you try to clean and organize your home—or get stuck in the middle of a decluttering project.

  2. You have certain spaces that you have decluttered and organized multiple times but they never stay that way.

  3. You are experiencing a major life transition: moving, new baby, downsizing, divorce/marriage, grief, etc.

  4. You are simply too swamped with works, kids, etc. to tackle any organizing yourself.

  5. You are neurodivergent (ADHD, Autism, etc.) and struggle with executive functioning challenges.

The Benefits of Hiring an Organizer

  1. A professional organizer will save you time and energy!

  2. Knowing that a professional is handling your project and taking the reigns will reduces your stress and decision fatigue.

  3. Your organizer will help you create sustainable (lasting more than just a day) systems tailored to your habits/lifestyle/household/etc.

  4. Having another person to talk through decisions with is invaluable. A professional organizer can help you let go of clutter associated with guilt or emotions.

  5. Once your organizing project is complete, you get to enjoy increased function and peace in your home!

What to Expect from Working with a Pro

Like I mentioned above, each professional organizer or organizing company is unique. However, at Organizing by Aubrianne in Cache Valley, Utah we start our process with a quick phone call to get to know each other. This allows us to learn more about your project and make sure we are a good fit for your needs. We will also give an overview of services, pricing, etc.

Once all your questions are answered, we will schedule an in-home consultation. At the consultation, the professional organizer will walk through your space & ask questions about your goals. Organizing by Aubrianne believes it is very important to understand what success at the end of the project looks like to you.

Following the consultation, you will receive a proposal that outlines the scope of your project, estimated timeline, and estimated cost. Once you’ve scheduled your first session & paid a deposit…let the fun begin!!

Your sessions will be tailored to your project and goals, but typically include decluttering, organizing, placing product (as needed), and of course labels!

Your professional organizer will be an accountability partner and decluttering coach. They will be respectful and judgement-free support.

Common Misconceptions

We are our own worst critics. In the process of hiring a professional organizer you might be thinking:

“I should be able to do this myself”

Please know that it is okay to ask for help, especially when you have so much going on! Our world is changing. Gone are the days when most wives and mothers stay home all day caring for their children—and even when they do it’s not as simple. We have way more possessions and extracurriculars grabbing for our attention.

“It’s too expensive”

Professional organizing is a luxury service, meaning you will not die without it and it will not be cheap. However, it is an investment in your mental, emotional, and physical health. The money you spend hiring a professional organizer will not be in vain.

“My house is too far gone”

Until a complementary consultation is done, don’t count yourself out for this reason. Simply reach out and see what your local professional organizer thinks after they’ve had the chance to review your space. If they truly believe the space is beyond their abilities, they’ll direct you elsewhere. 99.99% of the time, if you are willing to make a change, change can be made.

How to Choose the Right Organizer for You

It can be hard to decide on an organizer, but here are a few things you can look at to help with your decision:

  • Consider their personality on the website. Does it seem like you would work well together? Do they specialize in helping clients with your same problems?

  • Do they have experience? Have they invested in their business, specifically education to elevate their client’s experience? Do they have good reviews from previous or current clients?

  • Ask them questions during the consultation: What does your organizing process look like? Have you worked with clients like me before? How do you charge and what’s included? How do you help make systems last?

So... Should You Hire a Professional Organizer?

You don’t have to keep doing it alone. A professional organizer brings clarity, support, and real solutions for your life—not just your stuff.

If you are drowning in toys, paper, or just decision fatigue, help can make all the difference. If you're ready to reclaim your space (and your sanity), a professional organizer would love to support you.
